General Health and Wellbeing of Older Adults
Healthy eating is just as important for older adults as it is for everyone, and eating should be an enjoyable and sociable activity that you can look forward to, while still being a healthy one. However as we get older our lifestyles and appetite can change and this can affect the types and amounts of foods we eat. A decreasing appetite, reduced ability or desire to buy and prepare healthy foods can mean that many older people don’t get enough essential vitamins, mineral and fibre and this can contribute to general poor health or exacerbate some chronic illness. As dietitians we can support older people living independently or in residential care chose a nutritionally balanced diet.
